Eco pads and EU regulations

Eko podpaski, a regulacje UE

Every day, hundreds of tonnes of rubbish end up in newly created landfills around the world. In theory, we realise how terrible the consequences of this will be. In practice, however, we do little about it. Only a handful of us still sort waste and try to live eco. It’s worth keeping in mind what happens to products that no longer serve us – where they end up and how even ordinary, seemingly harmless pads can pose a threat!

We are growing in... waste

When buying new products, we rarely stop to think about how their production process has affected our planet and what will happen to them once we’re done using them. Worn-out clothes, broken household appliances, and everyday items we throw away can pose a real threat to our environment, and above all to ourselves. A perfect example of this are pads – very few of us know just how chemical their composition can be. Not only do we often poison ourselves by choice, but we also contribute to environmental degradation. Huge amounts of pesticides are used in the production of cotton contained in most popular pads and tampons, which devastates the environment and harms the health of those working in cotton cultivation.

The EU says NO

Every day the amount of waste grows, and our seas and oceans are drowning in plastic. Interestingly, a very large share of this waste is made up of pads and tampons. Under the rules of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), the EU Commission recommends that producers be charged with the costs of disposing of products such as pads, balloons, plastic cups or chip bags. However, in the case of personal hygiene products, manufacturers have warned that these costs will be passed on to consumers.

What can we do?

Since popular and widely available pads and tampons can pose a threat to the environment and ourselves, we must start taking action. This doesn't mean immediately giving up pads. It's enough to choose products made from organic cotton from natural crops, without chemical additives. Reliable certifications help choose pads that certainly do not cause allergies and do not pose a threat to health and the environment. Thanks to such products, we save ourselves and our planet, as they are made from biodegradable materials. That's why they decompose much faster – in just 3 months! And those plastic ones take xxxx years!
