Q&A:

  • Do you use a pad or tampon together with a menstrual swimsuit?

The menstrual swimsuit is designed to provide protection on its own during your period. There is no need to wear an additional pad or insert a tampon, but if you feel you would be more comfortable, you can use extra protection.

  • Is the menstrual swimsuit expensive?

Menstrual swimsuits are very efficient and durable, so buying one is definitely economical. It can be used for as long as 3–4 years without any loss of absorbency. If you follow the manufacturer’s instructions for washing and drying, this period can be as long as 6 years (remember that the swimsuit can last even longer, but its absorbency will gradually decrease slightly – this process will not be noticeable to you).

  • Does a menstrual swimsuit leak?

No, the period swimsuit does not leak as long as it is used and cared for correctly. However, you should listen to your body and adjust how long you wear the swimsuit to your needs, depending on how heavy your flow is.

  • Does the period swimsuit give off an unpleasant odour?

An unpleasant odor may sometimes appear if you have an intimate infection.

  • Do you feel the moisture of menstrual blood in a menstrual swimsuit?

If the menstrual swimsuit is washed correctly, it does not lose absorbency and keeps up with absorbing blood into the absorbent layer.

  • Does menstrual blood leak into the water when swimming in the pool/sea?

No, menstrual blood does not leak into the water, and here is why this does not happen:

special construction and absorbent layers

Menstrual bikini (that is, menstrual underwear designed for swimming) is made from special materials that:

  • the absorbent core locks blood and moisture inside the material,
  • the outer layer is waterproof, which prevents leaks to the outside.

Thus, menstrual blood is locked inside the inner layer, while water from the outside does not get in.

physics phenomena

When you are immersed in water, hydrostatic pressure comes into play, which:

  • makes it harder for fluids to flow from the vagina to the outside,
  • can temporarily reduce bleeding because the pressure of the water on the body gently “pushes back” the flow of blood.

That’s why bleeding appears lighter under water.

liquid surface tension

  • Water: has a high surface tension (about 72 mN/m at 20°C) due to strong hydrogen bonds between water molecules, which leads to minimizing surface area (e.g. droplet formation).
  • Menstrual blood: its surface tension is lower than that of water due to the presence of proteins, lipids and other surfactants in plasma and endometrial secretions, which reduce cohesive forces at the liquid–air interface. As a result, menstrual blood is more easily absorbed into the surface of an absorbent pad compared with water, which tends to form distinct droplets and is less readily absorbed into the bikini/swimsuit pad.

close, secure fit

Menstrual bikini briefs are designed to fit snugly to the body, especially around the groin and buttocks. This limits:

  • possibility of blood leaking to the outside,
  • water getting inside.

Blood does not flow freely under water. It’s worth knowing that menstrual blood doesn’t “run” continuously – it comes out in waves or drops, often only when you change body position or during uterine contractions. During a bath these factors are reduced, so less blood reaches the vaginal canal.

  • Does the bikini/swimsuit absorb water while swimming?

Masmi bikinis and swimsuits do not soak up water while swimming (or only minimally), because they are made from waterproof materials that do not allow water from the outside to reach the absorbent layer.

  • How does it work exactly?

outer layer – waterproof

This part is resistant to absorbing water because it is made from a waterproof material – it acts as a barrier that prevents water from getting inside.

absorbent layer – inner

Designed to absorb menstrual blood, not water. It works on the principle of capillary absorbency – but it is shielded, so it does not come into direct contact with pool or seawater.

good fit

The close fit to the body (especially at the groin and around the bottom) prevents water from being “pumped” inside while swimming or moving.

  • Why do menstrual bikinis and swimsuits absorb blood yet can still be washed?

The answer lies in the special, multi-layered construction of menstrual swim panties and the difference between water and menstrual blood.

The inner layer – the absorbent one – is made from organic cotton that absorbs fluids (e.g. blood, mucus). It is hidden under the outer layer, so it does not come into contact with water while swimming.

movement and pressure

During washing (by hand or machine), mechanical breakdown of structures (dirt, proteins, blood) occurs, and the use of warm water and detergent reduces surface tension, allowing the fabric to “absorb.”

special absorbent properties

The absorbent layer has been designed to soak up thicker fluids (blood, mucus) for a long time.

How to wash and care for a menstrual swimsuit?

  1. Wash before first use.
  2. After use, we recommend rinsing and/or allowing to soak before washing.
  3. Can be hand or machine washed with the rest of your laundry or in a separate laundry bag (if you prefer).
  4. If using a washing machine, wash at a temperature no higher than 40º.
  5. For proper care, we recommend using neutral soaps. Avoid using chlorine, bleach, fabric softeners, natural oils, or Marseille soap, as they may affect absorption.
  6. Do not use a dryer to dry your laundry as this may reduce its absorbency.

As the only brand on the market, we provide a guarantee of unchanged absorbency of our menstrual swimsuit for up to 100 washes!

If you follow the manufacturer's washing and drying recommendations, Masmi menstrual underwear will retain its properties for up to 400 washes!

Reusable hygiene products ensure safety, high absorbency, complete freedom of movement, great comfort and are at the same time very economical.

1. Why choose the Masmi menstrual swimsuit over synthetic alternatives?

The Masmi menstrual swimsuit, made with 100% organic cotton in the 3D absorbent layer, is healthier for intimate health than synthetic materials. A WHO report shows that over 75% of conventional hygiene products contain toxins like glyphosate, which can cause irritation or infections. Masmi’s organic cotton is free from pesticides and dioxins, minimizing this risk, and its breathable structure reduces moisture, helping to prevent issues like vulvitis according to gynecologists. Enjoy carefree swimming—discover Masmi at masmi.com.pl!

2. How is the Masmi menstrual swimsuit different from other menstrual swimwear?

The Masmi swimsuit stands out with 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton in the absorbent layer (77 g absorbency, equivalent to ¼ cup), unlike competitors who use synthetics. It is tested to ISO 105 standards—resistant to chlorine and saltwater, with UV protection UPF 50+, ensuring safety while swimming and sunbathing. Other swimsuits often lose absorbency after 60 washes, while Masmi maintains its properties for up to 400 washes. Choose unique quality—visit masmi.com.pl!

3. Is the Masmi menstrual swimsuit safe for sensitive skin?

Yes! The Masmi swimsuit is hypoallergenic, made from certified organic cotton (GOTS) in the absorbent layer, without chemicals, perfumes, or synthetics that can cause allergies or irritation. Studies show that natural materials reduce the risk of vaginal microbiome disturbances, and gynecologists recommend them for sensitive skin. Additionally, the absence of foil (polyurethane, polyester, etc.) in the absorbent layer eliminates the "plastic" rustling effect. Experience the comfort—visit masmi.com.pl!

4. What does the GOTS certificate mean and why is it important when choosing a menstrual swimsuit?

The GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certificate guarantees that the cotton in the Masmi swimsuit comes from environmentally friendly farms without pesticides or herbicides, and the production process is free from toxins like dioxins or chlorine, which studies show can enter the bloodstream in 4-8 seconds. It ensures safety for your body and the environment, using biodegradable materials. By choosing Masmi, you care for your health and the planet.

5. Is the Masmi menstrual swimsuit cost-effective in the long run?

Yes! Although the initial price (approx. 200 PLN) may be higher, the Masmi swimsuit is an investment for years. With an absorbency of 77 g and durability up to 400 washes (guaranteed for 100 washes), it will last for 5 years (about 60 cycles), whereas 10 packs of disposable products cost about 200-300 PLN for the same period. You save money and reduce waste—choose the economical solution with Masmi.

6. How does the Masmi menstrual swimsuit support intimate health during vacations?

The Masmi menstrual swimsuit supports intimate health thanks to organic cotton free of toxins like glyphosate, which can worsen infections, as confirmed by the WHO. The absence of synthetics reduces the risk of TSS and irritation in intimate areas. ISO 105 tests and UPF 50+ protection add extra safety. Take care of yourself on vacation—check out Masmi at masmi.com.pl!

7. How should you care for your Masmi menstrual swimsuit to make it last as long as possible?

Care is simple: wash it at temperatures up to 40°C with neutral soap, without bleach or a dryer. After swimming, rinse in fresh water to remove salt or chlorine. With proper care, your Masmi swimsuit will maintain its absorbency and shape for up to 400 washes. Start your vacation adventure with Masmi—visit masmi.com.pl!

8. Does menstrual blood leak into the water when swimming in a pool or the sea?

No, menstrual blood does not leak into the water. Here’s why:

• Special design and absorbent layers

Menstrual swimwear is made of special materials, where:

• The absorbent layer traps blood and moisture inside the fabric

• The outer layer is waterproof, preventing leaks to the outside

• Physical phenomena

When submerged in water, hydrostatic pressure:

• Makes it harder for fluids to exit the vagina

• Can temporarily reduce bleeding, since water pressure on the body gently "pushes back" the blood flow

• Surface tension of liquids

• Water: has high surface tension (about 72 mN/m at 20°C) thanks to strong hydrogen bonds between water molecules, which leads to minimizing surface area (e.g., forming droplets)

• Menstrual blood: its surface tension is lower than water because of proteins, lipids, and other surfactants in plasma and endometrial secretions, which reduce cohesion at the liquid-air boundary. As a result, menstrual blood is more easily absorbed by the pad surface compared to water, which tends to bead up and is less readily absorbed by the swimsuit’s insert

• Well-fitting cut

Menstrual swimwear is designed to fit snugly to the body, especially around the groin and buttocks. This limits:

• The possibility of blood leaking out

• Water getting inside

Blood doesn’t flow freely underwater. It’s important to know that menstrual blood doesn’t “run” continuously—it comes out in waves or drops, often only when you change body position or during uterine contractions. During bathing, these factors are reduced, so less blood reaches the vaginal canal.

9. Does the Masmi period swimsuit absorb water while swimming?

The Masmi period swimsuit does not absorb water during bathing (or absorbs only minimally), because it is made from waterproof materials that prevent water from passing through from the outside to the absorbent layer.

How does it work exactly?

• Outer layer – waterproof. This part resists absorbing water because it acts as a barrier that prevents water from getting inside

• Absorbent layer – inner. Designed to absorb menstrual blood, not water. It’s protected, so it doesn’t come into direct contact with water

• Good fit. A snug fit to the body (especially at the groin and around the buttocks) prevents water from being “pumped” inside during swimming or movement

10. Why does the period swimsuit absorb blood but can be washed?

The answer lies in the special, multi-layered construction of the period swimsuit and the difference between water and menstrual blood.

• Inner absorbent layer – made from organic cotton, absorbs fluids (e.g., blood, mucus), but does not come into contact with water during bathing

• Movement and pressure during washing – mechanical action, warm water, and detergent break down proteins and stains, allowing blood to be rinsed out

• Absorbent properties – the material is designed to absorb thicker fluids (blood, mucus) for extended periods
